The LP gas cylinders and tanks, and RV campers

Propane For TrucksThe LP gas cylinders and tanks, and RV campers

I know! I know! LPG tanks are boring! Well … may be, but is any type of motorized RV home, including discarded campers, motor homes, campers, and the wheel, fifth wheel only to reason since they also use it to understand. Remember, liquid propane is a gas, which is stored under pressure, flammable and can be dangerous. Not only are there rules to follow in its use, but also laws have been adopted to helpensure the safe use of liquid propane. This is particularly important for older units and many purchasers of these units who thought "is a robbery" in that old trailer get a surprise when they learn of LPG cylinders are "obsolete" and "illegal".
OK, let's review some basic concepts.

First, there are two types of tanks or cylinders.

DOT (Department of Transportation)

Ministry of Transport of containers is most of us are familiar. Theirare
Style vertical and DOT cylinders are considered.

– Primarily used in campers, down, campers, caravans,
and spacer.

– Can be removed from the RV

– Usually used in a vertical position, but not always. Some can be used
horizontally, but each cylinder should be used to
it was designed. (They are usually marked by the position in which the use)
Pre-cylinder l998without an OPD can be used on both sides at the same time, this does not apply
today as the DPO, the devices are needed in all (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) cylinders.ASME

Introduced in the Code of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers

-More commonly known as "tanks"

-They are usually found in caravan

'They are permanently installed

TYPES OF SERVICE VALVES

There are three types available in the recent history of VR

1) The most common was the center of gravity POL 510 (Presto Lite)

Identified by the handle turn 5 or 6-pin
Metal connection pipe to the left

2) Valve OPD service with "quick disconnect" that is mainly used
by industry and the barbecue is cleared for use by appointment

Quick disconnect fittings can be used downstream of the RV
things like gasgrids, but are not allowed to propane tank

3) Type I OPD service valve, which is now mandatory (May l, 2002)
January 1 5 / 16 "Acme thread and is easily recognizable with its black
or the green connector to connect the high pressure hose.

The rotation opening / closing handle with three blades
stands out as the new style.

"NOTE"

There is an exception. You can style "POL" with
Copper pipe on the leftconnectors with OPD devices. It 'easy to
identifiable as mango twist open / close will not be age
Pin-type 5 or 6, but is responsible for three new-style pins
OPD will be clearly labeled. You can be sure that you are not alone
to date, but also legal.

OPD device (device to prevent against overflow)

OK, so what's the big problem with the device referred to OPD? OPD devices
Now required on all recreational vehicles and cylinderstanks are a safety
ensure that the cylinders and tanks are not filled above the level of 80%.
(OPD devices required in ASME tanks and DOT cylinders from the l984 l998)

The device uses an internal float valve connected to a dedicated filling a piston
the effect of limiting the flow of liquid propane in the tank once it reaches the range of 80%.

Although not infallible, for the most part do so at their destination.Obviously
Floating devices other than horizontal and vertical containers and tanks to bottles
OPD devices must be in position (horizontal or vertical) for which they were designed.

MAXIMUM LIQUID LEVEL fixed reference

The maximum level established indicator liquid is a device that everyone should be familiar with rv'ers
and understand its purpose. The following will help you distinguish it from other devices.

It is used to determine the level of 80%containers

-Part of the service valve on DOT cylinders

Connected to a dip tube that goes into the cylinder to 80% of ASME tanks, which are physically at 80% capacity and is equipped with an air of 80%.

How to use

-It should always be open (a) when the container is full
During the steam-filling process will be issued until the liquid reaches
80% when the level of "white fog" (liquid propane) will be publishedmeaning
the container is full.

If the container is full of propane beyond this level, the excess must be
"Retired" until the steam is released only to ensure that the container is not overloaded
Also, to avoid possible future problems with the container.

For example, a container overflow can become dangerous if left in a vehicle
or under the sun, the temperature increases the pressure inside the tank. Now you have a basic understanding of what you are lookingwhen you see a tank, or LP gas cylinder and whether it is in progress. One last thing to consider is the condition of the tank. Tanks that are rusted or missing paint must be carefully monitored for any damage. If you ask for something in the tank or cylinder, have it checked by a professional.
